What is Infrared technology?
Infrared rays are energy rays but these
rays are not visible to human eyes due to a longer wavelength.
Infrared rays are emitted by all the objects at normal
temperature. Infrared rays are also used to increase the
visibility by using night vision devices.

IrCOMM?
IrCOMM is a communication port which is
available in most of the devices so that they can communicate
with each other via Infrared rays instead of wires. Basically
Infrared can be used to eliminate wires but the problem with
Infrared is that the range of infrared is very small. Both the
devices which are meant to share the data between each other
should be placed very near to each other for proper
communication. One more problem of Infrared is that the
communication speed is very slow.
INFRARED IN MOBILES
Infrared wireless technology can be used to
transfer data between different mobile phones. It can also be
used to transfer the data from mobile to Pc. All you need is two
IRCOMM ports one on each device. One IrCOMM will send infrared
rays and other IRCOMM will catch these infrared rays.

In the above picture both the devices are
connected to each other via IRCOMM ports. Mobile device should
be very near to IrCOMM port of Pc for a successful
communication. Infrared technology has been replaced by
Bluetooth technology in most of the new coming mobile phones. In
most of the new coming mobiles Infrared technology is not
included because of Bluetooth technology. I strongly recommend
you to use Bluetooth instead of using Infrared if you have the
Bluetooth option.
HOW TO USE INFRARED
1. Turn on INFRARED
First of all you need to
turn on your Infrared for that you need to find out where
Infrared option is located in your Mobile phone. In most of the
NOKIA mobiles this option is found in your Connectivity folder.
You can find this Connectivity folder in your MAIN menu. Once
you have located the INFRARED then you must “turn on” infrared
for communication to begin.
2. Sending data using Infrared
First you must go to that file
that has to be sent to other device. Then go to option and mark
send option. Once send option is marked then a sub menu will
open. Choose send via Infrared from the sub menu. Then place the
IrCOMM port of your mobile device near the IrCOMM port of the
other device. And in this way connectivity between both devices
will begin and your data will be successfully transferred.
